swedish massage ... considered the classic and most basic of all massage methods. It seeks to promote relaxation, improve circulation and range of motion, and relieve muscle tension; a combination of Oriental techniques and principles with modern physiology. It consists of five basic strokes:
effleurage – gliding strokes with the palms (and occasionally fingertips)
petrissage – kneading strokes with the hands and fingers
friction – deep circular movements with the thumb pads or fingertips
tapotement – brisk percussive movements
vibration – rapid shaking of the back or limbs
tantra ... most Westerners think of the Tantra as a term to describe a series of sexual practices used to stimulate energy in the body, (by raising the Kundalini).
