Conscious Breathing

Breathing, often synonymous with life itself, is actually a swap between you and the universe, a grand cosmic exchange of taking-in and releasing. Usually, it is so easy, we don't give it much thought. Its just an inhale and exhale. But it can be so much more powerful than that with the use of Conscious Breathing, you can relieve stress, reduce anxiety, clear the mind and recharge your energy.

During a Taoist Erotic Massage, Breath Work is very important as it allows for a rapid experiential session. What might normally take place over years of training can be experienced in a 'short' space of time. However, Breath Work is very arduous and not many clients can undergo the full 'breathing' session required for rapid experiential learning.

What is Conscious Breathing?     Breathing to most humans is something we rarely ever think about. It has always been there as part of our lives since the moment of birth, as has the beating of our hearts, or the blood coursing through our veins.

Conscious Breathing is simply breathing with awareness. To actually slow, stop, accelerate, or otherwise change the pattern of breathing we take for granted.

Once we assume control of our breath, amazing transformations can take place, in releasing past trauma, exploring aspects of Vision Questing, or experimenting in altered states of consciousness.

The original term for this type of working was "Rebirthing". It was believed that a person could go back in time to the moment of their births, re-live the experience and re-write any trauma that might have come from the birth. But that name was a misnomer as only about 20% of the people who underwent "Rebirthing" actually re-experienced their birth.

These days, the name for this breath work is Conscious Breathing.

Balinese Breathing

A few years ago, I met a man who said he was a shaman from Bali. He introduced me to a very simple way of breathing consciously and I would like to share that method with you.

To be performed twice a day, in the morning and in the evening.

This type of Conscious Breathing will slowly begin to transform you in many different ways:

to infuse energy into your being
to be more attuned to your own body's healing energies
to lighten the aura
to feel more centered/grounded.

To begin, Inhale deeply

Then exhale, releasing the entire breath while you slowly count to 10

Hold the breath out while you count to 5

Inhale through the nose only to the count of 10, start with the base of the lungs and work your way up to the throat as you inhale. Visualize light filling you. aligning the chakras with the body in harmony and balance.

Hold breath in for a count of 5

Exhale through the nose only to the count of 10, starting with the upper part of the lungs first then slowly release air from the lower part of lungs into the abdomen.

Imagine dirt coming out of you as all the poisons in your body are being released

Hold on the exhale for a count of 5

Inhale and continue with the above pattern until you have done 10 complete breaths.

Even after several years of doing this type of breathing, I find I can get 'lost' during the 10 complete breaths.

I get 'lost' as the Balinese Breathing makes me very relaxed. After about 4 or 5 complete inhale/hold, exhale/hold breaths, I usually lapse into a brief but deep sleep, only to awaken a few moments later not knowing which breath I just completed.

So I learned a quick trick by grabbing one finger on every inhale to remind me where I am during the 10 complete breaths. In this way, even if I lapse for a moment, I always know which breath I am on.

The Breathing Book
{from the book by Donna Farhi

"Our breath is constantly rising and falling, ebbing and flowing, entering and leaving our bodies. Full body breathing is an extraordinary symphony of both powerful and subtle movements that massage our internal organs, oscillate our joints, and alternately tone and release all the muscles in the body.  It is a full participation with life.

The fundamental nature of the breath is that, like life, it is constantly changing.  The breath oscillates.  It rocks us to and fro, fills and empties us, expands and condenses. One of the easiest ways to begin to perceive the this natural flow of the breath is to learn to recognize the basic movements in the body that are present during breathing. Movement tells you where the breath is moving...and where it is not. Recognizing these movements is the first step in getting to know your breath."

Tantra Techniques

#1 / Work with the tongue as it transmits Tantric energy.  The first practice is to move the tip of your tongue to the upper palate, finding a place on the upper mouth where your tongue feels most secure.  For most people it is the center, (for me I like it more to the left), or perhaps behind the teeth or curled to the back of the throat.  Find this place and while having sex, and especially for the climax, place the tongue here.  This simple technique over time will greatly increase your orgasmic power!  When I teach Tantra, I instruct that the only time during sex you don't have the tip of your tongue on the roof of your mouth is when your tongue is in someone else's mouth!  The tongue balances the energy exchange from one person to the next or while solo within your own sexual body centering the Kundalini.

#2 / Next time you urinate, stop the flow and notice which muscles function in stopping the flow. With practice and over time, you will notice that not only is the penis shaft involved, but so is the entire lower region including the anus involved in the flow of urine. Identify the particular muscles that are involved. To extend the effect of this exercise, you may also want to raise up on your tip toes while urinating and then clench/release.

#3 / Next time you fart or have a bowel movement, notice which particular muscles are involved in this process. Most of these muscles are located in the anus area, but sometimes the abdomen or genital area will also be involved. Become very aware of body functions and what parts of the body and even which muscles are involved in those functions.  Having the awareness is as important as gaining control over the functions.

#4 / When you have ejaculatory sex, notice which muscles are involved when you cum.  Most men during orgasms lose track of everything as the few seconds spent in ejaculation sort of blanks out all other details.  In Tantra this is referred to as the "little death".  If you are with a partner then notice how he cums as well.   With the Tantric Tsunami method all these details expand the awareness which in turn extends the Male Tantric Orgasm.

Man who fell in love with the Moon
{excerpted from the novel by Tom Spanbauer}

"Story goes that the Wild Moon Man lives at the bottom of a lake down south. Nights when the moon is full, he can up and grab you and pull you down into the lake with him.

Not many people have see the Wild Moon Man, but those who have say he's covered with hair and rusty mud.

Wild Moon Man doesn't like people much - Indians he don't like much and tybos ("whitest') he plain hates. But he's always looking for young men, special young men, him trying to get them to sit by the lake at night or come in skinny-dipping.

When he pulls you down, story goes he takes you to the bottom of the lake to his home, and teaches you how to breathe water instead of air. If you don't trust him and do what he says - you drown and they find you floating the next morning. But if you do trust him and do as he says, story goes, when you start breathing water, that muddy old hairy goat turns into a beautiful, strong warrior and he teaches you many secrets about the true power of being a man.

We were sitting by the fire, moonlight on the darkness all around us. Dellwood Barker told me, 'When the Wild Moon Man takes you underwater, to the hairy rusty mud, he's taking you to your asshole. ' Dell wood said, 'To the place that's as female as a man can get. You find your natural male power through your asshole, not your dick. You find your prostate. Fire down there under all that mud and hair and water. You find in yourself what most men love women for: their ecstasy, their hole into the other world. By receiving a man into you, by receiving a man like a woman, by being as female as a man can get, what you find -if you don't drown - is the beautiful warrior in yourself who knows both sides.

"Men like us are lucky," Dellwood said, "We've learned to breathe water.

"It ain't been easy, though - it never is.

"Even when you're accepted by your people -like with the Injuns -when the Wild Moon Man gets done with you, you're different, and when you're different you're different, that's all -and you and everybody else knows it.

"But don't get me wrong, with Injuns it was a great honor for a father to give his son to the teachings of a Berdache, and a greater honor to be chosen by the Wild Moon Man.

"But I don't care what you say - Injun, tybo, or whatever -a father wants his son to be like him. Simple as that.

"In most cases, though, the young men were different even before the Wild Moon Man swallowed them up. Why else were they sitting alone by the lake at night? Probably writing poetry or some damn thing.

"One thing's for sure -you'll never find a Berdache who's worth his salt with a dried - up prostate, I promise you that."

Free from woman's hole.

"P..R..O..S..T..A..T..E, Dellwood spelled. It means to put in front. To cause to stand."

Then he showed me where prostate was.

Wasn't long and I was breathing water .

Lessons in Lovemaking from the Far East
by Tom Kousoulas and Nic Begue,
authors of Tantra: The Art of Conscious Loving www.superfitness.net;
{exerpted form the article in GENRE Oct 1999}

Tantra is a Hindu spiritual system derived from a series of ancient Hindu texts meditations, sexual exercises and rituals. These texts were originally written as a form of dialogue between the Hindu god Shiva and his mate Shakti-their ultimate goal being union with God.

Tantric lovemaking reaches astonishing climaxes by basing its foundation on the Eastern philosophy of yin (receptive) and yang (active). Yin and yang cover seven levels of expression, from the softest, or most yin, to the fastest and hardest, or most yang. The point is to consciously transmit the positive energies of love, passion and pleasure, each ranging from the yin to the yang, into sexual encounters. Focusing your mind on your partner and constantly thinking of ways to nurture your relationship are vitally important. Begin by ritually designating a time and place for privacy and comfort, and preparing yourself both physically and mentally.

One of the ways you can center on your partner is to utilize one of the prime organs of intimacy: the eyes. Eyes are not only a gateway to the soul, but also a means of extending and receiving energy. Closing your eyes shuts out your lover and creates darkness during what is a potentially enlightening experience. Lovers should try to maintain contact with each other in as many ways as possible during their lovemaking, and the eyes offer perhaps the most important way of doing so.

Important elements of Tantric sex are chakras, or disks of energy that correspond to specific areas of the body: the base of the spine genitals, behind the navel, the heart, the throat, between the eyebrows, and the crown of the head. Each chakra represents a natural human desire: to possess, to copulate, to achieve, to love. to communicate, to understand and, finally, to ascend to reach God.

When you touch another person, a subtle energy flows through your hands and fingers. By harnessing and understanding this energy, you can connect on a deep kinetic level. When you touch each of the seven chakras and span the seven levels of yin and yang (speed and pressure), the goal of achieving union with a higher spiritual center can be understood. However much squeezing, scratching and slapping arouse passion, though, you must remember to be conscious of your lover's level of tolerance. Also, remember that you, as well as your partner, are to receive sensual pleasure from the contact, which means that you both must consciously participate as givers and receivers to arouse passion-Shakti or sexual electricity. But no matter how good your technique or how loving your caress, nothing will happen if your partner is not consciously receptive.

The number 1,001 is derived from Tantric texts and means infinite. In this case, the term 1,001 Movements refers to the number of variations that should be implemented in Tantric lovemaking. For example-the penis is a yang organ during intercourse, but it must manifest both yin and yang energy. Its most yin expression of depth is the shallowest, teasing or rubbing. Its most yang expression is manifested in the deepest contact. Even non-movement can become powerfully yang when the man uses his penis to pulse, tighten or flex when he is inside.

Tantrics also use circular and side-to-side pelvic movements, in addition to the traditional sexual motion. These variations are very pleasurable for both partners and, because they don't encourage ejaculation, can help to prolong lovemaking. The angle of entry also influences pleasure. By varying the angle of entry and exit, the penis may contact places it has never touched.

The greatest goal of Tantric sex is to increase the length and power of your orgasm. This is not always a simple task, but, with proper practice, all can achieve climactic mastery. Start to inhale as slowly as possible about halfway into the peak of your orgasm. The build up to your peak will continue as long as you can sustain the inhalation. When you need to release your breath, do it with as much sound as possible-your volume influences the depth of your orgasm. Stay in control of the sound without letting it go too quickly as the orgasm will last as long as you vocalize it. With practice, you can learn to sustain your orgasm for more than one complete breath.  Practice breathing exercises to strengthen your lungs and improve your lung capacity, and you'll have much longer orgasms.
